First Look: Perdomo Compay®
COMPAY® is Nick Perdomo's tribute to Cuba's
rich musical past and its favorite son - the legendary Compay Segundo.
Born Máximo Francisco Repilado Muñoz in 1907, he got his stage name -
Cuban slang for second compadre - from his specialty in low harmonies. He
emerged as one of the most respected musicians of the pre-revolution era.
Following Fidel Castro's rise to power, Segundo worked as a cigar roller
at the famed H. Upmann and Partagas factories in Havana before returning
to music in the late 1980s. He and his band, the Buena Vista Social
Club, attracted worldwide acclaim in 1998 before he passed away in
Havana in 2002 at the age of 95. Only death could put an end to the rise
of such an enchanting star who had once sworn to live to 100 -- and then
ask for an extension.
Hand crafted in choices of a dark, complex Maduro or a rich Cameroon
wrapper, COMPAY® is a special blend of medium
bodied, vintage Nicaraguan tobaccos. COMPAY®,
like the rich harmonies and tonal qualities of his music, is an
ambitiously divergent mix of bold flavors fused with a delicate
undercurrent of flirtatiously smooth and balanced notes on the
palate.
